A multiple crash on Interstate 91 northbound in Hartford also involved a state trooper’s cruiser.
According to authorities, the accident happened at around 5 p.m. on Friday between exits 32 and 33. The trooper was in his cruiser parked in the breakdown lane of I 91 during a traffic stop when his vehicle was struck by a car that was involved in an accident with other cars. The Nissan Altima was traveling in the left lane when it came upon slowing traffic and swerved right. The driver, Elmarie Aviles, hit the driver’s side door of a car on her right, then over corrected, causing her car to veer and strike another vehicle in the right center lane. She then slid across three lanes into the breakdown lane and struck the police cruiser.
The trooper, who wasn’t immediately identified, was taken to a hospital as a precaution, but only suffered minor injuries as did the other parties.
Aviles was issued an infraction for traveling too fast for the conditions and failure to move over when approaching a stationary emergency vehicle.
